Aluminium Awnings
Aluminium awnings, built for the Cape.
An aluminium awning is a permanent, weatherproof cover for a patio, deck or entrance. It is built from powder-coated, marine-grade aluminium instead of steel or timber, so it never rusts, rots or needs repainting. For Cape Town's coastal salt air, hard sun and the south-easter, that makes aluminium the right material.
Aluminium Awnings designs, fabricates and installs aluminium awnings in three forms: adjustable louvre awnings that open and close, fixed-roof awnings for permanent cover, and fully enclosed patio ceilings, all built in-house and engineered for the Western Cape coast.

Four types of awning, side by side
Most people who ask for a retractable awning are picturing a louvre roof. Here is what each type does.
| Louvre roof | Fixed awning | Retractable awning | Drop awning | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Aluminium roof with rotating blades | Permanent aluminium roof, usually IBR sheeting | Fabric cover on folding aluminium arms | Fabric blind that drops down the open side |
| Opens and closes | Blades open and close, the roof stays in place | No, it is always closed | Winds out, and back in against the wall | Rolls down, and back up out of sight |
| Rain | 95% weatherproof with the blades closed | Fully watertight, with a concealed box gutter | Pitched so rain runs off the cloth | Stops wind-driven rain from the side. Not a roof |
| Wind | Fixed aluminium frame, built for the Cape coast | IBR profile handles heavy wind loads | Must come in when the wind gets up | Runs in guides, so gusts load the fabric evenly |
| Drive | Manual or motorised | None needed | Crank handle, or motor with a wind sensor | Crank handle or motor |
Every type is designed, made and installed by Aluminium Awnings in Cape Town. For a roof you can see through, look at polycarbonate awnings. Indicative prices are on our pricing page.

Engineered for the coast
Built for salt, sun and the south-easter.
The Cape coast is hard on outdoor structures. We build for it from the start: marine-grade aluminium with no ferrous metal, baked-enamel and powder-coat finishes rated for Atlantic salt air, and stainless fasteners throughout.
Structures are sized for Cape Doctor wind loads, and the motors on our louvre roofs sit in sealed IP65 housings. We fit Somfy motors and remotes on our motorised louvre roofs and awnings. It's coastal-grade construction across the whole range, built once and built right.

FAQ
Good to know
What is an aluminium awning?
A permanent, weatherproof patio cover built from powder-coated, marine-grade aluminium rather than steel or timber, so it never rusts or rots. It can be an adjustable louvre awning, a fixed-roof awning or a fully enclosed patio ceiling.
Are aluminium awnings better than steel or canvas?
For Cape Town, yes. Aluminium does not rust, needs no repainting, and holds its powder-coat finish for decades, unlike steel, which rusts near the coast, or canvas, which fades and tears in the sun and wind.
Do I need a louvre awning or a fixed awning?
Choose an adjustable louvre awning if you want to open the roof for sun and airflow and close it against rain; choose a fixed-roof awning for permanent, 100% cover at a lower cost. We advise on the free site visit.
Do you install aluminium awnings across Cape Town?
Yes. We install across the whole Western Cape: the Atlantic Seaboard, City Bowl, Southern and Northern Suburbs, Helderberg, the Winelands, West Coast, Overberg and the Garden Route. Free on-site quote, fixed price within 48 hours.

We were looking for a modern, low-maintenance patio cover that suited our home in Stellenbosch, and this was exactly what we wanted. The finish is beautiful, the installation was neat, and communication throughout the project was excellent. It’s given us a space we can enjoy all year round. We would definitely use Aluminium Awnings again.
Aluminium Awnings Cape Town enclosed our Constantia patio with a manual louvre roof, full white, with aluminium doors and windows all round, and it's honestly become our favourite part of the house. We use it right through winter now. The rain and the wind don't get in, and it's so easy to wind the louvres open when the sun comes out. Neat, tidy install with a friendly team, and the white finish looks really clean against the house. Couldn't be happier, highly recommend.
Ryan and his team were awesome and really went the extra mile to make our awning perfect! Can definitely recommend them!
Very happy with the replacement of our awning after it got damaged in the May storm. More sturdy and stronger
We recently had a louvre awning installed by Aluminium Awnings at our home in Durbanville, and we’re so pleased with the result. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and the finished product has completely transformed our outdoor space. The team was professional, arrived on time, and kept us informed throughout the installation. We looked at a few different companies before deciding, and we’re really glad we chose Aluminium Awnings. If you’re considering louvre awnings in Cape Town, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Aluminium Awnings is so professional from start to finish. They make the process easy and understandable from day 1. The quality of their work is outstanding, we are so happy! I highly recommend them!
Absolutely thrilled with our new louvre awning from Aluminium Awnings. From start to finish, the service was professional, the installation was neat, and the finished product looks incredible. We’re based in Blouberg, so we wanted something that would work well with the coastal conditions and strong winds, while still giving us control over the sunlight and shade. The louvre awning has completely transformed the outside area and the quality of the aluminium structure and finish is excellent. Would definitely recommend Aluminium Awnings to anyone in Blouberg or Cape Town looking for a quality louvre awning. Very happy with the end result!
