A louvre roof, also called a louvre awning or louvre pergola, is an outdoor roof with rotating aluminium blades that pivot to control sunlight, shade, airflow and weather. Open the blades for sky and breeze; close them for shade or rain cover. Fully closed, the system is roughly 95% weatherproof, turning a patio, pool area or braai space into a room you can use in every Cape Town season.

Carriers, beams and poles are powder-coated in the full colour range, with colour-matched gutters. Four combinations we have fitted:
132mm aluminium blades rotate through 0–135°. Open them flat for full sky, angle them to filter the harsh afternoon sun, or close them completely for shade and rain cover, by wand or at the touch of a button.

The drive system
Manual systems rotate the blades with a simple wand, no electronics to maintain. Motorised systems run on a quiet motor controlled by remote, wall switch or smartphone app, so the whole roof opens and closes at a touch.

Water management
When closed, the blades drain into a baked-enamel gutter system built into the frame, which channels rainwater to integrated downpipes. That's what makes the closed roof roughly 95% weatherproof.

A louvre roof uses rotating aluminium blades to control light, shade, ventilation and weather. Open the blades for sky and breeze; close them for shade or rain cover. When fully closed the system is roughly 95% weatherproof. Blades are adjusted with a manual wand or by a motorised remote and app.
How waterproof is a louvre roof?
Approximately 95% weatherproof when the blades are fully closed. A baked-enamel gutter system runs along the perimeter and channels rainwater to integrated downpipes, keeping the space below dry in all but the most extreme wind-driven rain.
What's the difference between a louvre roof and a fixed awning?
A fixed awning gives permanent solid cover. An adjustable louvre roof has moveable blades, so you control light, airflow and weather. Louvre roofs are more versatile but cost more because of the blade mechanism and engineering involved.
Is a louvre roof the same as a retractable awning?
No, although people often search for one when they mean the other. A retractable awning is a fabric cover on folding arms that winds back against the wall and must be wound in when the wind gets up. A louvre roof stays in place: its aluminium blades rotate open for sun and air and close to keep out about 95% of the rain. If you want shade you can put away completely, see our retractable awnings.

Yes. Our motorised louvre roofs are operated by remote control, wall switch or smartphone app, and can be fitted with integrated LED downlights.
How much does a louvre roof cost in Cape Town?

Yes. Manual and motorised louvre roofs can both be fitted with integrated LED downlights recessed into the frame for a clean, flush finish, built in from the start or retrofitted later.

Aluminium Awnings Cape Town enclosed our Constantia patio with a manual louvre roof, full white, with aluminium doors and windows all round, and it's honestly become our favourite part of the house. We use it right through winter now. The rain and the wind don't get in, and it's so easy to wind the louvres open when the sun comes out.
