Somerset West to Gordon’s Bay

Under the Helderberg, Somerset West spreads down towards the Strand beachfront, with Gordon’s Bay in the corner of False Bay. The area gets the full south-easter in summer and the north-wester with the winter rain, and homes near the water take salt air as well.

Frames are marine-grade aluminium with stainless fasteners, each sized for its span and exposure. On a motorised louvre roof, a wind sensor can close the blades for you.
Somerset West has golf and security estates with their own rules on colour. Frames are powder-coated in charcoal, white, black or any RAL colour. The written quote comes with drawings to submit to your estate, so you can check the colour and design with the estate first.

Can a louvre roof go over a first-floor balcony in Somerset West?
Yes. On one of our Somerset West jobs a charcoal louvre roof sits over a first-floor balcony between two existing roof sections, carried on charcoal columns at the balcony edge and tied to the structure on either side. Nothing on the original roofs was altered. The blades are adjusted by hand: open, they keep the Helderberg view and the breeze; closed, they keep sun and rain off.
Should I choose a louvre roof or a polycarbonate pergola in Somerset West?
Both work here. A louvre roof gives control, with blades that open for sun and breeze and close against rain. A polycarbonate-roofed pergola, like the white and bronze one we built in Gordon’s Bay, is fixed and fully weatherproof, with no moving parts and nothing to close when the wind picks up. It also starts at a lower price per square metre than a louvre roof.
Do you install in Strand and Gordon’s Bay, close to the sea?
Yes, Strand and Gordon’s Bay are in our area. How do your structures handle the south-easter in Somerset West?
Each frame is sized for its span and anchored at fixing points chosen at the free site visit, because the south-easter comes over the mountain hard in summer. A manual louvre roof, like our Somerset West balcony roof, closes by hand when it blows, and a motorised one closes by remote. The Gordon’s Bay pergola, with its fixed polycarbonate roof, has nothing to close.

Aluminium Awnings Cape Town enclosed our Constantia patio with a manual louvre roof, full white, with aluminium doors and windows all round, and it's honestly become our favourite part of the house. We use it right through winter now. The rain and the wind don't get in, and it's so easy to wind the louvres open when the sun comes out. Neat, tidy install with a friendly team, and the white finish looks really clean against the house. Couldn't be happier, highly recommend.
