What a fantastic experience. The new louvre awning has made such a difference to our outdoor space and has honestly exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail during the installation was excellent, and the whole team was friendly, respectful, and easy to deal with. It looks like it was always meant to be part of the house. Thank you for a job well done!

Polycarbonate Awnings
A roof the light gets through.
A solid roof makes a patio dark and the room behind it darker. Polycarbonate keeps the daylight: an aluminium pergola with a polycarbonate roof stays bright underneath while the rain, wind-chill and UV stay outside. It is the roof for a patio off a kitchen or lounge window, where a solid cover would cost the house its light.
Multiwall sheet is the workhorse: its cellular structure diffuses light, cuts solar heat and takes the edge off hail. Clear solid sheet reads almost like glass at a fraction of the weight. Both go onto powder-coated aluminium frames we fabricate to the site, as a new pergola or a re-roof of the structure you already have.

Built for the Cape
Fitted right, it lasts. Screwed down flat, it cracks.
Polycarbonate expands and contracts more than the aluminium that carries it, so the sheets are fixed with the manufacturer's glazing profiles and room to move. The co-extruded UV layer faces the sun and keeps the sheet from yellowing; the aluminium frame underneath is powder-coated and pitched so rain runs off and never pools.

Polycarbonate FAQs
Good to know
Multiwall or clear polycarbonate?
Multiwall diffuses light, cuts a good share of solar heat and hides dust between cleans, which makes it the default over living space. Clear solid sheet is for where you want the sky: entrances, walkways and pergolas under trees. Both carry a UV-protected face; the choice is about light quality and heat, and we advise per position.
Does polycarbonate yellow over time?
The sheet we fit carries a co-extruded UV-absorbing outer layer, which is what stops the yellowing and brittleness cheap unprotected sheet is known for. Fitted UV-face-up, with the manufacturer's profiles, it keeps its clarity for years. That layer is also why the shade under it is genuinely UV-safe.
Will it make the patio hot?
Cooler than open sun, warmer than a solid insulated roof. That is the trade. Opal and bronze multiwall reflect a meaningful share of solar energy; clear sheet lets more warmth through. On a west-facing patio we spec the tint accordingly.
Can you re-roof my existing pergola with polycarbonate?
Yes, if the frame is sound. We check spans and fixings on the site visit, replace what needs replacing, and fit the sheets on proper glazing profiles. Re-roofing an existing structure is the cheapest way into a bright, dry patio.
What about hail and falling branches?
Polycarbonate is many times more impact-resistant than glass: hail that would write off a glass roof bounces off multiwall. A big branch can still dent or crack a sheet, but a damaged panel is replaced individually without touching the rest of the roof.
How does rain run off?
The roof is pitched, the sheets run in continuous lengths with the flutes, and the fixing profiles carry water to the gutter edge. What the pitch is depends on the span; getting it right is the difference between a roof and a puddle, and it is set on site.
Is a polycarbonate roof waterproof?
Yes, installed at the correct pitch with the manufacturer's profiles and flashings it sheds rain like any roof. The junction with the house decides the rest: we seal it with an aluminium flashing, not silicone hope.

We were looking for a modern, low-maintenance patio cover that suited our home in Stellenbosch, and this was exactly what we wanted. The finish is beautiful, the installation was neat, and communication throughout the project was excellent. It’s given us a space we can enjoy all year round. We would definitely use Aluminium Awnings again.
Aluminium Awnings Cape Town enclosed our Constantia patio with a manual louvre roof, full white, with aluminium doors and windows all round, and it's honestly become our favourite part of the house. We use it right through winter now. The rain and the wind don't get in, and it's so easy to wind the louvres open when the sun comes out. Neat, tidy install with a friendly team, and the white finish looks really clean against the house. Couldn't be happier, highly recommend.
Ryan and his team were awesome and really went the extra mile to make our awning perfect! Can definitely recommend them!
Very happy with the replacement of our awning after it got damaged in the May storm. More sturdy and stronger
We recently had a louvre awning installed by Aluminium Awnings at our home in Durbanville, and we’re so pleased with the result. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and the finished product has completely transformed our outdoor space. The team was professional, arrived on time, and kept us informed throughout the installation. We looked at a few different companies before deciding, and we’re really glad we chose Aluminium Awnings. If you’re considering louvre awnings in Cape Town, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Absolutely thrilled with our new louvre awning from Aluminium Awnings. From start to finish, the service was professional, the installation was neat, and the finished product looks incredible. We’re based in Blouberg, so we wanted something that would work well with the coastal conditions and strong winds, while still giving us control over the sunlight and shade. The louvre awning has completely transformed the outside area and the quality of the aluminium structure and finish is excellent. Would definitely recommend Aluminium Awnings to anyone in Blouberg or Cape Town looking for a quality louvre awning. Very happy with the end result!
