Table View and Blouberg look across the bay at Table Mountain from flat, open ground with little to break the wind. The south-easter blows through summer, the north-wester drives rain in sideways off the water in winter, and salt rides in on both. A patio cover here has to be specified for summer and winter alike.

The south-easter that brings the kitesurfers to Big Bay leans on every patio roof along this coast, so frames are sized to the span and anchored to take it head-on. At Sunset Beach that meant reinforced fixing points and heavy-profile blades, with a motor that closes every blade from inside the house in under 30 seconds.
Salt comes in on the same wind, so every frame is marine-grade aluminium with no ferrous metal. The West Beach louvre awning uses manual blades to keep electronics out of the sea air. For a patio closed off for good, the Blouberg patio ceiling locks 200mm white panels into one surface, with a box gutter and concealed downpipes.

Can a louvre roof handle the Blouberg south-easter?
Yes, when it is built for it. We size the frame to your span and anchor it for the wind on your site, and a motorised roof can be fitted with a wind sensor. On a Blouberg patio exposed to the bay, we engineered the frame and blades for the summer south-easter and used stainless fasteners throughout.
Does a louvre roof keep the rain out in Blouberg?
Closed, it keeps out most of it. The Blouberg louvre roof seals the patio against rain driven sideways off the bay, and on the Sandown roof the drainage is integrated into the system, so the closed blades form a tight ceiling when a front moves through. For a patio closed off for good, a patio ceiling like the one we built in Blouberg has solid panels with no blade gaps for the rain to find.
Can you put a louvre roof over a patio we have already glazed in?
Yes. In Table View we fitted an automated all-white louvre roof above a patio the owners had already closed in with glass stacking doors. Open, the garden room becomes a courtyard under the sky; closed, the blades seal it against wind and rain, and one press on the remote does it. White frame and blades keep a glass room bright, since the roof is its only solid surface.
Can you build on a beachfront property?
Yes, right on the seafront. We have built for a beachfront home in Sunset Beach, on Table Bay, and a West Beach patio close enough to the Atlantic that ordinary fixings don't last. Both are marine-grade aluminium with no ferrous metal and carry the lifetime corrosion guarantee, which needs basic upkeep, such as regular cleaning with clean water, to stay valid.

Aluminium Awnings Cape Town enclosed our Constantia patio with a manual louvre roof, full white, with aluminium doors and windows all round, and it's honestly become our favourite part of the house. We use it right through winter now. The rain and the wind don't get in, and it's so easy to wind the louvres open when the sun comes out. Neat, tidy install with a friendly team, and the white finish looks really clean against the house. Couldn't be happier, highly recommend.
