What a fantastic experience. The new louvre awning has made such a difference to our outdoor space and has honestly exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail during the installation was excellent, and the whole team was friendly, respectful, and easy to deal with. It looks like it was always meant to be part of the house. Thank you for a job well done!
Aluminium Extruded Pergolas in Cape Town clean lines.
Fully powder-coated aluminium pergolas with your choice of fixed polycarbonate or retractable shearweave roofing. Freestanding or wall-attached, custom-built for the Western Cape coast.
Free site visit · Lifetime corrosion guarantee · 4–5 week lead time
The basics
All-aluminium. Your choice of roof.
An extruded aluminium pergola is a permanent outdoor structure (posts, beams and rafters) fabricated entirely from powder-coated aluminium. Every beam, post and carrier is the same powder-coated aluminium in a matching colour, for a sharp, architectural, uniform finish. No timber to warp, rot or repaint.
Then you choose how it's roofed: fixed multiwall polycarbonate for a permanent, fully weatherproof covered room, or a retractable shearweave system that draws across for shade and opens to reveal the sky. Both come freestanding or wall-attached, and both can be built with lighting, fans, screens and concealed gutters designed in.

Why aluminium
Stronger, lighter, lasts
01
Corrosion-resistant
Aluminium naturally resists moisture, salt air and rust, so there is no annual maintenance. The powder-coat finish adds a further layer of UV and corrosion protection engineered for the Western Cape coast, backed by a lifetime corrosion guarantee.
02
Strength without bulk
Aluminium delivers structural strength with slimmer profiles than timber or steel and no heavy beams. The result is an elegant, minimal frame, ideal for contemporary homes, glass façades and poolside areas.
03
Freestanding or attached
Attach it to the house wall to extend the patio line, or stand it freely over a pool surround, dining area or courtyard. We assess the best configuration on site.
04
Extras designed in
LED downlights, fans, drop screens, side enclosures and concealed gutters are built in during fabrication, with wiring routed invisibly through the frame, not bolted on afterwards.
Build quality
Built for the Cape coast.
Every section is powder-coated aluminium with stainless fasteners, specified for Atlantic salt air, the south-easter and intense UV. No rust, no rot, no repainting.

Questions
Extruded pergola FAQs
What is an aluminium extruded pergola and why is it better than timber?
An aluminium extruded pergola is a permanent outdoor structure of posts and beams fabricated entirely from powder-coated extruded aluminium. Unlike timber it doesn't warp, rot or need annual sanding, painting or sealing. Aluminium's natural corrosion resistance and slimmer profiles make it stronger and cleaner-looking, and far better suited to Cape Town's coastal salt air, wind and UV.
What roofing options are available?
Two. Multiwall polycarbonate is a fixed, architectural-grade panel that's fully weatherproof, with UV protection on both sides and filtered natural daylight below. Retractable shearweave is an open-weave technical fabric on a motorised or manual track that draws across for shade and light rain protection and retracts fully to reveal open sky.
Are the polycarbonate panels just plastic sheeting?
No. We use architectural-grade multiwall polycarbonate, an engineered roofing panel designed to handle outdoor thermal movement without distortion. UV protection is applied to both sides, it reduces solar heat gain while letting filtered daylight through, and panels are fixed without fastener penetration so there are no leak paths. Clear or tinted options are available.
Can the pergola be freestanding or attached to the house?
Both. Attached pergolas connect to your house wall, ideal for patios and entertainment decks. Freestanding pergolas stand independently anywhere in the garden, pool surround or courtyard. We recommend the right configuration during the free site visit.
How much does an aluminium extruded pergola cost in Cape Town?
Extruded aluminium pergolas start from around R3 000/m², supplied and installed. The roofing option (polycarbonate or retractable shearweave) and site conditions affect the final price. We provide a fixed written quote after a free site visit.
Will it handle Cape Town's wind, salt air and UV?
Yes. Aluminium naturally resists corrosion and moisture, and our powder-coated frames are engineered for coastal salt air, Cape Doctor wind loads and high UV. Every installation is backed by a lifetime corrosion guarantee.
Can I add lighting, fans, screens or gutters?
Yes. LED downlights, ceiling fans, drop screens, roller blinds, side enclosures and concealed gutters can all be designed in during fabrication, with wiring routed invisibly through the aluminium frame rather than retrofitted later.
How long does installation take and what colours are available?
Most single-span pergolas install in one to two days, as components are fabricated in-house and arrive ready to assemble. Frames are available in charcoal, white, black and the full RAL range, with custom colour matching. Total lead time from accepted quote to sign-off is 4–5 weeks.

We were looking for a modern, low-maintenance patio cover that suited our home in Stellenbosch, and this was exactly what we wanted. The finish is beautiful, the installation was neat, and communication throughout the project was excellent. It’s given us a space we can enjoy all year round. We would definitely use Aluminium Awnings again.
Aluminium Awnings Cape Town enclosed our Constantia patio with a manual louvre roof, full white, with aluminium doors and windows all round, and it's honestly become our favourite part of the house. We use it right through winter now. The rain and the wind don't get in, and it's so easy to wind the louvres open when the sun comes out. Neat, tidy install with a friendly team, and the white finish looks really clean against the house. Couldn't be happier, highly recommend.
Ryan and his team were awesome and really went the extra mile to make our awning perfect! Can definitely recommend them!
Very happy with the replacement of our awning after it got damaged in the May storm. More sturdy and stronger
We recently had a louvre awning installed by Aluminium Awnings at our home in Durbanville, and we’re so pleased with the result. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and the finished product has completely transformed our outdoor space. The team was professional, arrived on time, and kept us informed throughout the installation. We looked at a few different companies before deciding, and we’re really glad we chose Aluminium Awnings. If you’re considering louvre awnings in Cape Town, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Absolutely thrilled with our new louvre awning from Aluminium Awnings. From start to finish, the service was professional, the installation was neat, and the finished product looks incredible. We’re based in Blouberg, so we wanted something that would work well with the coastal conditions and strong winds, while still giving us control over the sunlight and shade. The louvre awning has completely transformed the outside area and the quality of the aluminium structure and finish is excellent. Would definitely recommend Aluminium Awnings to anyone in Blouberg or Cape Town looking for a quality louvre awning. Very happy with the end result!
